Check Your Glove To Check Your Grip
    by Staff
Amateur golfers have a tendency to wear out golf gloves before they should -
very often in the palm. This is an indication that the players have too much
of the grip in the left palm, rather than in the fingers, and therefore are gripping
the club too tightly. They then lose the club at the top of the backswing and
have to regrip during the swing - a sure way to misdirect shots.

The solution, of course, is to take a correct grip. That is, the club should rest
on the inside of the last knuckle of the pinkie finger of the left hand and run
diagonally to the second to last inside knuckle of the index finger. Thus, the
club is held in the fingers. This alone will create the right grip pressure with
    less effort.

Another way to check for proper grip is by seeing where the calluses develop
on your hands. If your grip is sound, the calluses will develop on the last three
fingers of the left hand and the middle two fingers of your right hand
(just the opposite if you're left-handed). If you're developing calluses on the pad
of your thumbs or on the base or side of either of your forefingers, your grip is
much too tight; you're holding the club in the palm of the left hand.
